About MedLegacy Global Health

Giving Medical Equipment a Second Life—and Communities a Stronger Future

MedLegacy Global Health is a Canadian nonprofit organization working to improve access to reliable medical equipment and practical healthcare training in under-resourced communities.

Around the world, hospitals and clinics struggle to serve patients without the basic equipment, technical support and training they need. At the same time, functional medical equipment is often retired or replaced in well-resourced healthcare systems.

MedLegacy was established to help bridge this gap.

We recover suitable medical equipment, coordinate its inspection and refurbishment, and work with healthcare partners to place it where it can continue saving and improving lives. Our goal is not simply to deliver equipment—it is to help create sustainable healthcare capacity.

Our Mission

Our mission is to improve healthcare delivery in under-resourced communities by facilitating access to refurbished medical equipment, supporting healthcare training and promoting environmentally responsible reuse.

What We Do

Medical Equipment Recovery

We work to identify medical equipment that is no longer required by hospitals, clinics, manufacturers and other healthcare organizations but may still have meaningful service life.

Inspection and Refurbishment

Before equipment is considered for placement, it must be properly evaluated. We seek to work with qualified technicians and trusted partners to inspect, repair and prepare donated equipment for safe and appropriate reuse.

Responsible Equipment Placement

We collaborate with recipient hospitals and healthcare organizations to understand their actual needs. This helps ensure that equipment is appropriate for the facility, clinical environment, electrical infrastructure and available technical capacity.

Healthcare Education and Training

Providing equipment alone is not enough. We support training for healthcare professionals, technicians and hospital personnel so equipment can be operated correctly, maintained responsibly and used effectively.

Environmental Responsibility

Extending the useful life of appropriate medical equipment can reduce unnecessary waste and support a more circular healthcare economy. By recovering and responsibly reusing equipment, MedLegacy seeks to create both a healthcare benefit and an environmental benefit.

Why MedLegacy Was Founded

Access to healthcare should not depend on whether a hospital can afford the basic tools required to treat its patients.

Yet many healthcare professionals around the world are expected to provide care without dependable diagnostic, surgical, monitoring or patient-support equipment. In other places, valuable equipment may sit unused or be discarded simply because it has been replaced by a newer model.

MedLegacy was founded on the belief that these two realities can—and should—be connected.

With the right partnerships, equipment that has completed one chapter of service can begin another. A hospital can strengthen its capacity. Healthcare workers can expand their skills. Patients can receive better care. Communities can become more resilient.

Our Approach

We are committed to building partnerships based on responsibility, transparency and long-term impact. Our approach is guided by five principles:

Need before supply

We begin by understanding what recipient healthcare facilities genuinely require.

Safety and suitability

Equipment must be appropriate for its intended environment and purpose.

Training alongside equipment

Recipients should have the knowledge needed to operate and care for the equipment.

Partnership over charity

We work with communities and healthcare institutions as partners in creating sustainable solutions.

Measurable impact

We aim to track the equipment placed, professionals trained, waste diverted and communities supported.

Our Vision

We envision a world in which healthcare professionals have access to the equipment, knowledge and support they need to provide safe and effective care—regardless of geography or economic circumstances.

Our long-term vision is to develop a dependable network connecting hospitals, healthcare organizations, technical specialists, educational institutions, donors and community partners across Canada and internationally. Together, this network can help strengthen hospitals, support healthcare professionals and improve patient outcomes.

Join Us

Building stronger healthcare systems requires collaboration. Hospitals can donate suitable equipment. Companies can provide financial or logistical support. Biomedical professionals can contribute technical expertise. Educational institutions can support training. Volunteers and community members can help advance our mission.

Whether you attend an event, become a sponsor, donate equipment, volunteer or introduce us to a potential partner, you can help give medical equipment a second life—and help give more communities access to better care.

Better Equipment. Better Training. A Healthier Tomorrow.
